Footloose and fancy free: the Neufeld paradigm in the key of epic dorkiness!
Remember that sweet ever-so-epic song Almost Paradise from the Footloose soundtrack? Who can forget it? I had a bit of a Weird Al moment with that song one day this past winter and started to hear a playful new version of the song in my head… so I decided to make it reality! This song combines my love of karaoke, the 80s and Dr. Neufeld’s attachment based developmental paradigm. I had the pleasure of attending the 4 Days with Gordon event about a month ago in Parksville, BC and one of the topics covered was music as an emotional playground. I could relate! I got to play this song for an audience of diehard Neufelders who couldn’t have ‘gotten’ it any more! The appreciation was palpable and I am glad I could bring some laughter to such a wonderful group of humans. The song is below if you’re in need of a dose of laughter or if you want to feel slightly embarrassed for me as a performer and just shake your head a bit, but I can’t imagine it wouldn’t elicit a smile at minimum. Special thanks to my duet karaoke pal and producer, Ryan MacDonald, who is always up for playing with music and being ultra dorky with me!
